Burning Man Theme Camps

Burning Man theme camps are an art unto themselves. Starting in 2002, Pufendorf has been involved in creating theme camps. You might enjoy our theme camp checklist. More information and pictures below.

Burning Man 2005: Camp Unofficial

Elements of the Monks returned as Camp Unofficial (and also as Loose Monks). Camp Unofficial, although not officially mapped, created shade, was home for an art-car and the support base for a playa art project.

Burning Man 2004: Tribe of the Chattering Monks

The Monks returned in 2004 with more shade and more people and created a performance and shade space fronted by hand-painted black-light-reactive projection panels and low-voltage streetlights. Camp also included a weather station and interactive snow cone booth.

Burning Man 2003: Tribe of the Chattering Monks

In 2003 some pieces of The Island regrouped and, with a generous injection of new blood, reformed as Tribe of the Chattering Monks. The camp featured a 24' geodesic dome and a 16' dome. The 24' dome was a music performance space that featured live improvisational music by Link and Steve.

Burning Man 2002: The Island

A mapped theme camp featuring a 16' geodesic dome with original sound and visual compositions. We hauled three TVs, a small sound system and a generator. A neo-primitve black-light sculpture garden adorned the front of the camp. The dome was open day and night for shade, warmth and entertainment.
